Richard’s career testifies to his solid technical expertise, underpinned by practical field experience developed over thirty years across the complete scope of oil sands operations. His unique and complimentary skills add excellent balance to the Minestar’s technical team’s capability and delivery focus with his high energy and practical hands on leadership approach.
Seeking new challenges Richard ventured into the contracting starting as General Manager for a fluid hauling company. Richard restructured the company within a nine-month period producing immediate results that over doubled their revenue and secured Master Service Agreement (MSA’s). Before joining Minestar, Richard also held a number of board and Director positions including Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association (NAABA) and Directorship of his own construction company and local engineering firm.
Richard then accepted a role to lead maintenance outages progressing quickly to Project Specialist in a large scale SAGD facility, he successfully completed 29 brown field capital projects. His success lead to his appointment to the Construction Manager role in the company’s Major Projects Group.
Richard began his career in the oil sands with a major producer completing his journeyman Welder and Pipefitter trade certificates. He worked in the maintenance services team in the Extraction and then the Mining Business Units proving his versatility and growing technical aptitude. Richard was also being a fully trained member of the Site Emergency Response team
Richard is a long-term Fort McMurray resident and 1935 Metis member, Richard has witnessed first-hand the birth and consequent rapid growth of the oil and gas sector in the Wood Buffalo region.
